24ASPRT11 - Softground Etching Workshop

Tue-Thu, 8/13—8/15, 3-days, 10 am—4 pm 

Begin by creating etchings into applied softground on copper plates. After the ground hardens, students may further develop hardground techniques including aquatint. Produce prints in an edition or in varied ways. An etching artist's delight!

8/13 - Morning - Introduction to Softground Etching. Examples. Materials, Handouts, Materials and Methods. Demonstration. Students begin developing sketch/visual ideas.
Afternoon - Students begin the process of applying Softground Etching on Copper Plates and possible materials to press into soft ground.
8/14 - Morning - Students begin etching softground plates, utilizing ferric chloride.
Afternoon - Students begin printing. Apply softground etching to another copper plate or hardground method.
8/15 - Morning and Afternoon -Students continue printing. Additional methods including aquatint are offered.
 
Supplies:
Most materials are provided within the printmaking studio. This includes copper plates, softground/hardground solutions, inks, tools, etc.
 
A limited amount of printmaking paper will be provided, students may want to bring additional papers.
 
Students should bring sketch pads, pencils and pens.
 
Students may also bring low-relief textural materials of choice, in addition to studio offering.
